Shashika Lokuliyana is a University Associate at Curtin University, serving at Curtin Colombo within the Global Curtin portfolio since 2016. In this capacity, she functions as a Cisco Academy Instructor for Curtin University programs. She is concurrently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Systems Engineering, Faculty of Computing, at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), a position she has held since 2011. At SLIIT, she coordinates the BSc (Hons) in IT specialized in Computer Systems Engineering degree program and the MSc in Network Engineering program. Her teaching responsibilities include courses in Information Security, Computer Systems and Networking, and Computer Systems Engineering. Prior to her academic career, she completed industry traineeships at Sri Lanka Telecom (2010), Swarnawahinee (2009), and Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (2008).
Lokuliyana earned her Master of Science in Information Technology from SLIIT in 2014 and her Bachelor of Science (Hons, 2nd Class Upper Division) in Information Technology specializing in Computer Systems and Networking from SLIIT in 2011. Her research interests center on Software Defined Networks, resource orchestration, IoT-based smart technologies for smart cities, smart campuses, and waste management systems, cloud communication via secured channels, OpenFlow routers on FPGA platforms, Network Function Virtualization, and DNS implementations for future networks. Notable publications include 'CURETO: skin diseases detection using image processing and CNN' (2020, cited by 43), 'Location Based Garbage Management System with IoT for Smart City' (2018, cited by 40), 'IGOE IoT framework for waste collection optimization' (2017, cited by 32), 'Gesture driven smart home solution for bedridden people' (2020, cited by 15), 'Indoor Positioning: Novel Approach for Bluetooth Networks using RSSI Smoothing' (2016), and 'A Database Optimization Model with Quantitative Benchmark' (2016, co-authored with Curtin University researchers Iain Murray and Johannes Herrmann). Her works appear in IEEE conferences and the International Journal of Computer Applications. She received a Merit Award at the 2016 SLIIT Student Symposium for 'Native Cloud Support for Running WSO2 Middleware on Microsoft Azure' and placed among the top three in the Asia Pacific region in the Cisco Mentor Me competition. Lokuliyana is a member of IEEE (since 2012) and the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (since 2015).
