Dr. Shawn Lee (Lee Ji Kwan) is a Senior Lecturer in the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia. He earned his PhD in Psychological Medicine from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2018, with a thesis titled 'Pre-recorded hypnotic peri-surgical intervention to alleviate risk of chronic post-surgical pain in total knee replacement: A randomized controlled pilot study.' Prior to this, he completed an MClinPsych in Clinical Psychology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2012, focusing on 'Developing a Malaysian Psychotic Symptom Screening Inventory: An exploratory study,' and a BPsych (Hons) from Universiti HELP in 2010. His career encompasses academia, clinical practice, and industry. As Chief Clinical Psychologist at MuHeal, a digital health technology company based in China, he advances psychological interventions through technology. He serves as a visiting psychologist at Hospital Selayang’s Pain Clinic, maintains a clinical psychologist role there, and directs Psycle Consultancy and Training, offering private services, supervision, and training to clinical psychologists.
Shawn Lee's research specializations include pain management, cognitive behaviour therapy, clinical hypnosis, psychometrics, and digital health, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. He is Chief Investigator on the AllPlay Malaysia project for inclusive education systems. Key publications feature 'Prerecorded hypnotic peri-surgical intervention to alleviate risk of chronic postsurgical pain in total knee replacement: A randomized controlled pilot study' (2019, International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis), 'Psychometric examination of the Malay version of the Pain Catastrophising Scale in a Malaysian chronic pain sample' (2023, Malaysian Journal of Anaesthesiology), 'Mechanisms of hypnosis: Toward the development of a biopsychosocial model' (2015, International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis), 'Developing a Malaysian Psychotic Symptom Screening Inventory: an exploratory study' (2014, International Journal of Culture and Mental Health), and an erratum on hypnosis mechanisms (2015). He sits on the Board of Editorial Consultants for the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. His teaching covers professional ethics and abnormal psychology. Professional affiliations include the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and International Association for the Study of Pain.
