About Shayne

Dr. Shayne Taylor served as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She earned her MD from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia in 2014, following undergraduate degrees in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Biology from Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Taylor completed her residency training in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, graduating in 2018. Immediately following residency, she was appointed to the faculty and became the inaugural Medical Director of the Vanderbilt Clinic for Transgender Health, which opened on August 24, 2018, to provide comprehensive multispecialty care for adult transgender patients. In this capacity, she advanced transgender health services and contributed significantly to the Program for LGBTQ Health at Vanderbilt, including delivering LGBTQ Grand Rounds and a lecture titled “The Clinic for Transgender Health: A Passion Project for our Patients.” As Primary Care Med-Peds faculty, she gained extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient care.

Board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, and a certified practitioner by the Menopause Society, Dr. Taylor's research and academic interests center on LGBTQ health, general primary care, and adolescent medicine. Her publications include "Trans-specific Geriatric Health Assessment (TGHA)" published in LGBT Health in 2020, co-authored with Adam D. Huggins and Jesse M. Ehrenfeld while affiliated with the Program for LGBTQ Health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and "Electronic Health Records and Preparedness: Lessons from Hurricanes Katrina and Harvey" in 2017. She is affiliated with professional organizations such as the American College of Physicians, American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and World Professional Association for Transgender Health. Dr. Taylor's roles at Vanderbilt enhanced inclusive healthcare practices, particularly for transgender and LGBTQ communities, bridging clinical care, education, and research in the field of Medicine.
