Dr. Sheena Sara is a Lecturer in the Department of Finance and serves as the Deputy Director of Undergraduate Studies (Course) at the Malaysia School of Business, Monash University. She holds a Doctorate in Finance from Monash University Malaysia, conferred on 27 April 2022, with a thesis titled 'Re-visiting the Determinants of Target Debt Ratio, the Role of the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act and Speed of Adjustment: An Empirical Study on U.S. Public Listed Firms.' Her research interests center on corporate finance, encompassing optimal capital structure, investment, corporate governance, and price discovery in financial markets, alongside recent focuses on sustainable finance and fintech. Sara teaches foundational finance units such as BFW1001 Foundations of Finance and is currently accepting PhD students. She contributes to student employability through workshops like 'Define, Discover and Design: Your Business Degree, Your Way' and Graduate Employability Day.
Sara's scholarly output includes six peer-reviewed articles published in esteemed journals. Key publications are 'Impact of geopolitical risk on target debt ratio' (Finance Research Letters, 2024, co-authored with Keshab Shrestha and Karren Lee-Hwei Khaw), exploring the negative association between geopolitical risks and firms' target debt ratios; 'Fintech market efficiency: a multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis' (Finance Research Letters, 2023, with Shrestha and Babak Naysary), assessing inefficiencies in Fintech indices; 'Price discovery in carbon exchange traded fund markets' (International Review of Financial Analysis, 2023, with Shrestha and Naysary); and 'Contribution of exchange traded funds in hedging crude oil price risk' (American Business Review, 2023, with Shrestha and Yessy Peranginangin). These works have received citations on Scopus and advanced understanding of financial market dynamics, hedging, and geopolitical impacts. She has earned the Early Semester Student Feedback Survey Awards (2023, 2024), School of Business Excellence Awards 2024 commendations for Emerging Educator and Emerging Researcher, and the Emerald Most Provocative Award (2025, with co-authors). Sara also acts as a peer reviewer for Electronic Commerce Research and participates in programme committees.
