Professor Shekhar Srivastava serves as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Allahabad, where he previously held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Science from 2019 to 2022. He obtained his M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Lucknow in 1978 and completed his Ph.D. on 'Photoelectron Spectroscopy Study of Metal Complexes' under the supervision of Dr. A.P.B. Sinha at the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. His professional journey commenced in 1979 as a Junior Research Fellow at the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, progressing to Senior Research Fellow. Following his Ph.D., he worked as a Research Associate at CSIR, New Delhi, and as a pool scientist with Prof. M.M. Taqi Khan at the Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute, Bhavnagar. In 1987, he joined as Lecturer in the School of Studies in Chemistry at Jiwaji University, Gwalior. He moved to the University of Allahabad in 1994 as Reader in the Department of Chemistry and was promoted to Professor in 2003.
Throughout his tenure at the University of Allahabad, Prof. Srivastava has undertaken significant administrative responsibilities, including Head of the Department of Chemistry (2016–2018), Director of the Sheila Dhar Institute of Soil Science (2016–2018), Director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies (2019–present), Head of the Department of Biochemistry (2021–2022), and Head of the Department of Statistics (2021–present). He also served as Officiating Vice-Chancellor from 15 March to 4 April 2021 and is a member of the Executive Committee, Academic Committee, and Board of Studies in Chemistry, having chaired the Board for two years. His research focuses on photoelectron spectroscopy, particularly studies of metal complexes, coordination chemistry, and organometallic chemistry. He has published over 90 research papers in national and international journals, two single-authored review papers on photoelectron spectroscopy in New York, USA, and two books. Prof. Srivastava has supervised 40 Ph.D. theses and 7 M.Phil. dissertations. He holds a published patent entitled 'Consumable Metal Complex Delivering System in Body' (Application No. 353154-001). His contributions have been recognized with the Shiksha Ratna Puraskar in 2007 from the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi, and the Best Citizen Award in 2008 from the International Publishing House, New Delhi. He is a life member of the Indian Chemical Society, Kolkata, and the Indian Congress Association, New Delhi.
