Sher Campbell is an Honorary Lecturer in the School of Law and Justice within the College of Human and Social Futures at the University of Newcastle. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts, both from the University of Newcastle. Campbell joined the Newcastle Law School in 2007 as a research assistant for Dr John Anderson and was appointed Lecturer in 2016. She has served as First Year Transition and Regional Rural and Remote Coordinator, as well as Course Coordinator for Legal System and Method in the undergraduate program. Her professional roles extend to the Executive Board of the Women Lawyers Association of NSW since 2016 and membership on the NSW Law Society's Diversity and Equity Committee.
Campbell's research interests include alternative dispute resolution, disruptive innovation and the legal world, international legal education, legal education, rural law, and wellness and law, with her primary field classified as legal practice, lawyering, and the legal profession. Key publications co-authored by her encompass book chapters such as 'Local to Global: Incorporating Overseas Work and Study in the Law School Curriculum' (2018) and 'Shaping the future lawyer: connecting students with clients in first-year law' (2014); journal articles including 'Interventions for Well-being in first year law' (2015) and 'LAWYERS OF THE FUTURE: CREATING ASPIRATIONS, FORGING CONNECTIONS AND FACILITATING PROFESSIONAL LINKS IN RURAL AND REGIONAL CONTEXTS' (2013); and conference papers like 'Recruiting rural and remote law students: Creating aspiration and providing support in transition at Newcastle Law School' (2010). She has contributed to grants totaling $423,671, including $163,511 from the Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Programme for mentoring regional women in law and business (2017), $150,000 for the AVO App 'Bernie' addressing family violence (2017), and $33,000 from the New Colombo Plan Student Mobility Project. Among her awards is the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award for Law Teaching (2010), with nominations for Community Lawyer or Academic of the Year and Change Champion of the Year from the NSW Women Lawyers Association (2017). Campbell has led international student programs to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Kenya to advance clinical legal education and global ties, while her rural outreach has secured employment for graduates in remote NSW areas. She supports wellness through involvement with the Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation and the Wellness Foundation for Law.
