Shota Yokoyama is a researcher in quantum optics and quantum information science, with a focus on continuous-variable quantum computation. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Tokyo in March 2015, following completion of his Master's course in the Department of Applied Physics in March 2012 and Bachelor's course in the same department in March 2010. Earlier, he studied at the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tokyo from 2006 to 2008. Yokoyama joined the School of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra as a Visiting Fellow in June 2015, supported by a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research Abroad, a role he held until June 2017. He then advanced to Research Associate from June 2017 to December 2020, Lecturer from January 2021 to June 2022, and Senior Research Associate from June 2022 to July 2023. His research during this period centered on generating large-scale continuous-variable cluster states using time-domain multiplexing, quantum detector tomography, coherent feedback control, and measurement-based quantum operations, contributing to scalable optical quantum processors.
Among his notable publications are "Ultra-large-scale continuous-variable cluster states multiplexed in the time domain" in Nature Photonics (2013, 696 citations), co-authored with teams from the University of Tokyo; "Generation of time-domain-multiplexed two-dimensional cluster state" in Science (2019, 603 citations), demonstrating a prototype for large-scale quantum computing; "Time-Domain-Multiplexed Measurement-Based Quantum Operations with 25-MHz Clock Frequency" in Physical Review Applied (2021, 101 citations); "Two-Stage Estimation for Quantum Detector Tomography: Error Analysis, Numerical and Experimental Results" in IEEE Transactions on Information Theory (2021, 28 citations); and "Fault-Tolerant Coherent H∞ Control for Linear Quantum Systems" in IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control (2022, 26 citations). These works have had substantial impact, advancing the field toward practical quantum computing technologies through international collaborations. Currently, Yokoyama serves as Senior Scientist at the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing since August 2023.
