Shuo Zhai is an Assistant Professor at Shenzhen University in the College of Civil and Transportation Engineering. He holds dual doctoral degrees, one from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Architecture and Real Estate (2020–2022) and one from Sichuan University in Low Carbon Technology Engineering (2017–2022). He earned his bachelor’s degree from Sichuan University in Process Equipment and Control Engineering in 2017. Prior to his current position, Zhai served as a postdoctoral research assistant at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2022 to 2023.
Zhai’s research focuses on building new energy systems, clean and efficient utilization of coal for power generation, and the development of AI-driven high-temperature ceramic electrochemical cell electrode materials and devices. He has extensive experience in near-zero carbon emission deep coal clean power generation and the direct electrolysis of unconventional water resources for hydrogen production, gained under the supervision of Academician Heping Xie and Professor Meng Ni. Zhai is a master’s supervisor and has guided students to national scholarship awards. He serves as session chair for the InterPore annual conference in the porous media field and holds youth editorial board positions with Exploration, Green Carbon, and Energy Reviews. He is also a senior researcher at the Dongfang Electric Fujian Innovation Research Institute. In the past five years, Zhai has authored more than 30 papers in leading international SCI journals.
