Siddharth Jhunjhunwala serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Science. He earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Industrial Biotechnology from Anna University in Chennai in 2006 and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 2011. He then completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2012 to 2015, including a Mazumdar-Shaw International Oncology Fellowship. Jhunjhunwala joined the Indian Institute of Science as Assistant Professor in 2016 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. His research specializations include immuno-engineering, biomaterials, and drug delivery, with interests in engineering immune responses and related biomedical applications. He has received several honors, including the Ramanujan Fellowship from SERB, DST in 2016, the Prof. Priti Shankar Teaching Award for Assistant Professors at IISc in 2019, the R.I. Mazumdar Young Investigator Position at IISc from 2017 to 2019, and the DBT-Wellcome India Alliance Intermediate Fellowship from 2020 to 2024. Among his publications are studies such as “A biomaterial implant model demonstrates that immature neutrophils drive immunopathology following acute injury” in Biomaterials (2026), “Phagosome Maturation in Macrophages is Enhanced by p38α MAPK Signaling” in Small (2025), “Neutrophil-Derived Extracellular Vesicles for Facile Delivery of Diagnostic Agents to Tumor Microenvironments” in ACS Applied Biomaterials (2025), and “Immunomodulatory Bandage for Accelerated Healing of Diabetic Wounds” in ACS Bio & Med Chem Au (2022). Jhunjhunwala contributes to the field through his work on immune cell responses and biomaterial applications in biomedical contexts.
