About Sidney

Sidney J. Gray, BEc (Hons) (University of Sydney), PhD (Lancaster), Hon LLD (Kwansei Gakuin), FASSA, FCCA, CPA, ACIS, MCMI, is Professor Emeritus of International Business and Co-Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Group in the University of Sydney Business School. He served as Head of the School of Business from 2003 to 2006 and founded the Discipline of International Business, now with 25 full-time faculty members. Previously, he was Foundation Professor of International Business at the University of New South Wales from 1997 to 2003. Earlier career appointments include Professor of International Business at Warwick Business School from 1993 to 1997, Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Glasgow from 1980 to 1987, and Founder Director of the Centre for International Finance and Accounting at Glasgow from 1988 to 1992.

Professor Gray's main teaching and research interests encompass international accounting and corporate transparency, international business strategy, and cross-cultural management. He has supervised 49 PhD dissertations and is author or co-author of more than 200 publications, including 108 refereed journal articles, recognized as one of the world’s leading scholars in international accounting. Key publications include International Accounting and Multinational Enterprises (2006, with Radebaugh and Black), Financial Accounting: A Global Approach (1999, with Needles), and International Group Accounting: Issues in European Harmonization (2014, with Coenenberg and Gordon). He is an elected Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia for distinction in accounting research, Fellow of the Academy of International Business, and Fellow of the Australia and New Zealand International Business Academy, which he co-founded and presided over from 2002 to 2004. Professor Gray received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Kwansei Gakuin University in 2012 for contributions to the advancement of culture. He co-founded and serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Financial Management and Accounting, with editorial board roles at Journal of International Business Studies and Management International Review. He was President of the International Association for Accounting Education and Research from 1992 to 1997 and served on the UK Accounting Standards Committee from 1984 to 1987.
