Associate Professor Dr Siva Barathi (Sharl) Marimuthu is an Associate Professor of Civil Dispute Resolution, Global Food Security and Sustainability Law and Policy in the School of Law at the University of New England. She earned her LL.B (Hons) and Certificate in Legal Practice in Malaysia, an LL.M, and a Ph.D. from Monash University. Her research specializations encompass global food security law and policy, civil dispute resolution, international environmental law, sustainable food production, natural resource governance, global insect regulation, human rights perspectives to food regulations, regulation of advertisements of therapeutic goods, comparative studies, and civil procedure. Marimuthu provides leadership as Postgraduate Program Convenor, Editor of the International Journal of Regional, Rural and Remote Law and Policy, and Co-Chair of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law’s Teaching and Capacity Building Committee, fostering environmental law education and international collaboration. She leads impact-oriented scholarship on food systems, climate-resilient agriculture, and regulatory responses to environmental risks, engaging policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders while supporting capacity-building for public sector leaders.
Recognized for teaching excellence with Senior Fellowship of Advance HE (SFHEA), she teaches courses including Global Food Security Law and Policy, Civil Dispute Resolution, International Environmental Law, Civil Procedure, and Corporations Law. Key publications include co-editing the 2024 book The Changing Food Law Landscape: Food Security, Sustainability and the Environment (Routledge/Taylor & Francis), featuring her chapters on future food landscapes, health claims regulation, corporate social responsibility, regenerative agriculture, post-COVID food security, alternative protein products, and human rights in environmental law. Other notable works are co-authored books Law of Evidence in Malaysia (2015, 2018 editions), journal articles such as 'Children’s Human Rights to Food' (2024, Ecology and Society), 'Regulations on Insects as Food and Feed: A Global Comparison' (2021, Journal of Insects as Food and Feed), and 'Controlling the Biodiversity Impacts of Agriculture' (2020, Routledge). Her contributions advance legal analysis intersecting policy, environmental science, and sustainability challenges across regional, national, and international contexts.
