Sarah King holds the position of Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Fine Art programme at Arts University Plymouth. In addition, she acts as Subject Leader for the Fine Art degree programme. Her teaching responsibilities encompass all years of the degree, with particular leadership in level 6 studio work, professional practice, and contextual modules. Furthermore, Sarah King serves as the External Examiner for the University of Gloucestershire. As a dedicated practicing artist, educator, and researcher, Sarah King utilizes a variety of methods in her artistic practice. These include digital recording and projection, the gathering and making of objects, stitching, drawing, and embodied actions. Her research specializations center on notions of memory. She investigates the uncanny and the abject as they relate to objects, materiality, memory, and trace. In her recent works, which consist of soft sculptural pieces and sound drawings, she addresses themes such as the passing of time, forgetfulness, the absent subject, and the act of mending the impossible. These explorations aim to confront and reconcile the strangeness of loss. Sarah King has exhibited her artwork both nationally and internationally. Her creations are held in private collections located in the United Kingdom and the United States. She maintains a strong passion for the dialogue of practice, valuing the richness that comes from sharing, debating, and questioning. This approach helps to bring dynamic and live making and thinking into the studio setting for students and colleagues alike. Through her multifaceted contributions to fine art education and practice, Sarah King continues to influence the field in meaningful ways by fostering environments where practice and theory intersect dynamically.
