Solveig Roth Hoff is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Ålesund, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. She serves as section chief in the Radiology Department at Ålesund and Volda Hospitals, Helse Møre og Romsdal HF. Roth Hoff obtained her medical degree (Cand.med.) from the University of Bergen in 1995, completed internship service from 1995 to 1997, and residency training in radiology at hospitals in Førde and Haukeland. She became a specialist in radiology in 2003 and earned her PhD from NTNU in 2013 with the thesis “Radiological and epidemiological aspects of mammographic screening.” Her career includes various leadership roles such as assistant department chief, section leader for physicians, and leader of breast diagnostics services at Ålesund Hospital, as well as serving as department trust representative. Since 2022, she has led the project for establishing decentralized medical education in Møre og Romsdal, based at Ålesund Hospital, in a 25% position at NTNU.
Roth Hoff's research focuses on mammography screening, breast cancer detection, radiologist performance, and artificial intelligence applications in radiology. She has authored numerous publications in leading international journals, including three in Radiology with two as first author. Key publications include “Influence of Mammography Volume on Radiologists' Performance: Results from BreastScreen Norway” (Radiology, 2019), “Radiological review of prior screening mammograms of interval breast cancers in BreastScreen Norway” (European Radiology, 2021), “True and Missed Interval Cancer in Organized Screening With Tomosynthesis Versus Digital Mammography” (Academic Radiology, 2022), and “Challenges when comparing tomosynthesis and 2D mammography” (2025). A co-authored article on AI in mammography ranked fourth in Altmetric score for Radiology in 2022. She has supervised one PhD candidate to completion in 2021, two master's students in 2020, and currently supervises three PhD candidates. Roth Hoff has presented lectures at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) and Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). She holds memberships in the National Advisory Group for the Mammography Program, serves as radiologist representative on the Norwegian Breast Cancer Group (NBCG) steering committee, and the National Breast Cancer Registry (NBCR) reference group. In 2023, she was appointed honorary member of the Norwegian Radiological Society (NoRaFo) for contributions to clinical practice, leadership, research, and teaching.
