Sotiris Meletiou is a researcher in the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, at Bournemouth University. He began pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Aquatic Biology/Limnology in 2024. His research focuses on the conservation biology and management of the critically endangered European eel in Cyprus, at the eastern edge of the species’ range.
Meletiou led surveys that resulted in the first recording of silver European eels in the inland waters of Cyprus. This work was published as the paper “Implications of the first recording of European silver eels Anguilla anguilla in the inland waters of Cyprus” in the Journal of Fish Biology in 2026. He previously completed an MRes in Molecular Ecology at Swansea University between 2020 and 2022 and holds a BSc in Biology from Swansea University.
