Dr. Stanley Paul is the Program Director of the Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program at George Fox University, having joined the faculty in 2023 to lead the program ahead of its launch in fall 2024. He brings more than 25 years of academic and clinical experience in occupational therapy. Paul earned a Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Christian Medical College in India, a Master of Science in occupational therapy from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a PhD in occupational therapy from New York University, and a Doctor of Medicine from Hope University School of Medicine in Belize. A licensed occupational therapist (OTR/L), he completed a three-year residency at Atlanta Medical Center after passing medical boards. His clinical practice spans diverse settings, including VA hospitals, acute and long-term care facilities, pediatrics, home health, and rehabilitation centers. He has treated patients recovering from strokes, neurological and orthopedic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, fractures, and quadriplegia, focusing on restoring independence in daily activities, community mobility, shopping, cooking, and personal hygiene.
Paul’s academic career includes faculty positions at Western Michigan University, where he joined after his PhD; Georgia Health Sciences University; Drake University; Keuka College; the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in Miami, Florida, as associate professor; and South University in West Palm Beach, Florida, as program director and research coordinator for the OT doctorate program. He has also served as faculty at the University of Medical Sciences Arizona and as an external research advisor for OT students in India. His research interests center on occupational therapy education, faculty research productivity, mentoring, and clinical outcomes, including occupational balance in military members. Notable publications include “Research Productivity Among Occupational Therapy Faculty Members in the United States” (American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 2002), “The Role of Mentoring on Research Productivity Among Occupational Therapy Faculty” (Occupational Therapy International, 2002), “Occupational Balance & Well-Being of Military Members” (AJOT, 2024, with Diana Calafell), and contributions to cultural influences in OT evaluation and reliability studies of assessment tools. At George Fox, a Christian institution, Paul emphasizes service-oriented education, interprofessional collaboration, and addressing therapist shortages in rural areas like Oregon and beyond.
