Professor Stefanie Feih is a Professor in Mechanical Engineering within the School of Engineering and Built Environment at Griffith University. She serves as the Director of the Advanced Design and Prototyping Technologies (ADaPT) Institute, leading research and development in advanced manufacturing technologies. Her academic background includes a PhD from the University of Cambridge obtained in 2002, a Master's degree from Cornell University in 1997, and a Mechanical Engineering degree from TU Darmstadt. With over 25 years of experience in academic and industry-focused research, Feih has established herself as a leading expert in lightweight structures, material processing, and design optimisation.
Feih's research specializations encompass additive manufacturing, 3D printing, polymers and polymer-based composites, biomechanical engineering, and sustainable materials solutions. She has made significant contributions to fields such as lattice structure optimisation, residual stress predictions in high-strength alloys, and patient-specific femur simulations for orthopedic applications. Notable publications include 'Residual stresses and distortion predictions in complex high strength alloy castings' (2020), 'Hierarchical sheet triply periodic minimal surface lattices: Stiffness, strength and energy absorption' (2021), and 'Influence of geometric defects on the compression behaviour of additively manufactured lattice structures' (2022). Her work has garnered over 8,700 citations on Google Scholar. Feih is ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in Materials science according to Stanford rankings. She holds editorial roles as an appointed Editor for Composites Part B and is an elected member of the Executive Council of the International Committee on Composite Materials. Additionally, she leads Research Program 1 on Materials and Design for the Solving Plastic Waste CRC and contributes to industry collaborations through ADaPT, focusing on MedTech devices, satellites, and marine components. Feih also serves as Deputy Chair of RDA Gold Coast, promoting regional innovation in engineering.
