Stephanie J. Lawson, Ph.D., serves as Associate Professor of Marketing in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management at Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business, a position she has held since Fall 2022. Previously, she was Associate Professor of Marketing and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Accreditation at Winthrop University. Before entering academia, she gained ten years of professional experience in marketing management and research in the healthcare, transportation, and retail sectors. Lawson earned her B.A. in Communication, MBA, and Ph.D. from Florida State University.
Her research specializations include collaborative consumption, access-based services, and Native American issues in marketing. Publications featuring her work appear in the Journal of Business Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Marketing Letters, among others. Key contributions encompass the co-edited book Understanding Collaborative Consumption (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2024), which explores shared goods and services such as Uber and Airbnb through contributions from nearly 40 scholars; "A multi-group examination of gig economy workers' perceptions" (Journal of Business Research, 2019); "How the Burdens of Ownership Promote Consumer Usage of Access-based Services" (Marketing Letters, 2016); "Decisions, decisions: variations in decision-making for access-based consumption" (2021); and "Consumer-based coping within the United States during COVID-19" (2024). Lawson has presented at the American Marketing Association, Association for Consumer Research, Society for Marketing Advances, Frontiers in Service, and Southeast Marketing Symposium conferences. Among her honors are the 2021 LaRoche Graduate Faculty Award, 2019 Outstanding Junior Faculty Award from Winthrop University, 2010 AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium Fellowship, 2013 Suffolk University Outstanding School of Business Faculty Award, 2019 Winthrop CBA Service Award, and 2015 Winthrop CBA Research Award. She is affiliated with the Research Institute for Environment, Energy, and Economics at Appalachian State University.
