Stewart Hibbert is a highly experienced administrator at the University of Otago, with a career spanning higher education management and commercial sectors. He earned a BSc with Honours from the University of Wolverhampton, a Postgraduate Diploma in DPIM from the University of Portsmouth, and a Diploma in Human Resource Management from Otago Polytechnic. These qualifications underpin his expertise in business analysis, budgeting, research design, human resources, and financial processes.
Beginning his tenure at the University of Otago in 2005, Stewart served as Departmental Manager for the Department of Marketing within the Otago School of Business. In this position, he oversaw administrative operations, supporting faculty and students in commerce-related disciplines. He later contributed to Campus and Collegiate Life Services, managing aspects of student residential life. In August 2015, he joined the Higher Education Development Centre (HEDC) as Centre Manager, focusing on the centre's finances, human resources, administrative policies, and functions. During his time at HEDC, he supported initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching and learning across the university, including participation in projects like building academic numeracy for undergraduates. Demonstrating versatility, Stewart has managed significant operations in multiple university departments prior to his current responsibilities. Presently, as General Manager of Knox College and Salmond College—residential institutions affiliated with the University of Otago—he directs administration, property management, catering, and finances. His leadership emphasizes system improvements to optimize student experiences in collegiate living. Stewart Hibbert's professional trajectory reflects a dedication to operational excellence and support for academic communities.
