Dr. Suad Al Radhwan is an Assistant Professor in the Petroleum Engineering Department at the Australian University in Kuwait, having joined full-time on September 2, 2018, after serving as an adjunct lecturer since 2014. She also serves as Manager of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. A Kuwaiti national, she earned her PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bath, UK in 2005, Master’s in Chemical Engineering from Kuwait University in 1996, and Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from Kuwait University in 1984. Prior to academia, Dr. Al Radhwan amassed 34 years of experience at Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), including as Manager Research & Technology, Head of Refinery Process Engineering Division for eight years, Manager for engineering design of critical projects for three years, and Head of the R&T Department since its inception in 2010. She led the national project to install 1 GW of photovoltaic solar plant capacity.
Dr. Al Radhwan’s research interests include refineries and petrochemical processes and technologies, renewable energy, environmental management, and environmental & social governance. Her key publications encompass 'Waste Water Minimization in Refineries and Process Industries under Uncertain Operational Conditions' (Computers & Chemical Engineering, 2005), 'Simulation of an Atmospheric Residue Desulfurization Unit by Quasi Steady State Modeling' (Chemical Engineering & Technology, 1998), 'Optimizing Oil Removal from Oil-Water Emulsions Using Novel Iron Oxide Magnetic Nanoparticles' (Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, 2023), and 'Plant Health Index as an Anomaly Detection Tool for Oil Refinery Processes' (Scientific Reports, 2021). She has presented at conferences including the Kuwait/Japan Joint Symposium on Petroleum Refining and the Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference. In 2015, she received the Leadership Excellence for Women Awards in the 'Woman of Achievement' category. Dr. Al Radhwan serves on university committees such as the Department Council, Curriculum Committee, and Accreditation Committee, and is a Certified Educational Institution Auditor by the Kuwait Private Universities Council, as well as a member of advisory boards for Kuwait University's Chemical Engineering programs.
