Dr. Subashini Perera serves as a Lecturer in Economics with a teaching focus at the University of New England (UNE) Business School, part of the Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law. She holds a PhD in Economics from UNE, complemented by a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics, a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations, a Bachelor of Economics, and a Diploma in Management, all obtained from institutions in Sri Lanka. Her academic journey at UNE began as a PhD student, during which she presented her research on trade facilitation at the 31st PhD Conference in Economics and Business in 2018 and participated in the UNE Business School Three Minute Thesis competition. In 2020, she delivered a seminar titled "Does WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement Matter?" at UNE Business School.
Subashini is recognized for her expertise as a Trade and Agricultural Economic Modeller, proficient in multi-regional Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models and handling large databases to evaluate development policies. Her research interests encompass trade and climate change policies, their economic impact assessments, global trade, energy, and climate change. Notable publications include "Impacts of Trade Facilitation on South Asian Economies" (2019, co-authored with Mahinda Siriwardana and Stuart Mounter), "Trade Facilitation, Economic Development and Poverty Alleviation: South Asia at a Glance" (2017, with Siriwardana and Mounter), and "Trade Facilitation—Measurement Difficulties in the Computable General Equilibrium Model: A Review" (2017). She coordinates and teaches units such as ECON101 (Understanding Markets, Prices and Competition), ECON417 (International Trade and Finance), ECON203 (Banking and Finance), ECON317, and QM367 (Analytics for Business Research), covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, policy evaluations, banking, finance, and international trade. She also supervises higher degree research students in CGE modelling, global trade, and energy and climate change. In 2007, she received the Australian Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship.
