Dr. Sudipta Bose is an Associate Professor of Accounting in the Discipline of Accounting and Finance at Newcastle Business School, University of Newcastle, Australia. He earned his PhD in Accounting from UNSW Sydney, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is a professionally qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) from the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh. Before entering academia, he served as Deputy Finance Manager in the Finance Division of Grameenphone Ltd., a subsidiary of Telenor Group Norway, and as Finance Manager at Na Vosa Publishers Pty Ltd in Australia. His academic career includes research and teaching positions at UNSW Sydney's School of Accounting from 2010 to 2016, followed by Lecturer in Accounting from 2017 to 2018, Senior Lecturer from 2019 to 2025, and Associate Professor since November 2025 at the University of Newcastle. He has held roles such as Program Convenor for the Master of Professional Accounting and has been a visiting researcher at institutions including the University of Sydney and Northumbria University.
Dr. Bose's research specializations encompass financial accounting streams including capital markets, cost of equity capital, analysts, earnings management, and linkages to climate change information, carbon emissions disclosures and assurance, sustainability disclosures, performance and assurance, biodiversity, corporate governance, and machine learning. A Fellow of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, UK, he has published in A*/A-ranked journals such as Journal of Corporate Finance ('Does Carbon Risk Matter for Corporate Acquisition Decisions?', 2021), British Accounting Review ('Philanthropic Giving, Market-Based Performance and Institutional Ownership: Evidence from an Emerging Economy', 2017; 'Economic Policy Uncertainty, Carbon Emissions and Firm Valuation: International Evidence', 2024), and Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal ('"Green Washing" or "Authentic Effort"? An Empirical Investigation of the Quality of Sustainability Reporting by Banks', 2021). His research has been cited in policy documents by the World Bank, United Nations, and Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, and he collaborated with the Australian Accounting Standards Board on comparing GHG Protocol standards with Australian regulations. Funded by organizations including AASB, ACU, ADB, AFAANZ, and ASEAN, he serves on the Editorial Panel of Accounting and Finance journal, reviews for leading journals like Contemporary Accounting Research, and external grants such as SSHRC. Dr. Bose has received major awards including 2023 College of Human and Social Futures Excellence Awards for Research Supervision and Student Experience, 2019 Finalist for Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Excellence Award, Inaugural Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Award (2018), and Faculty of Business and Law Teaching Excellence Awards. His teaching covers financial accounting, management accounting, corporate financial reporting, and business decision making.
