About Sunitha

Dr. Sunitha V serves as an Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering department at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, within the Engineering faculty. Her primary research focus is transportation engineering, encompassing pavement materials and pavement management systems. She holds a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from the University of Calicut (2001), where she was the first rank holder at N.S.S. College of Engineering, Palakkad; an M.Tech. in Traffic and Transportation Planning from the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2003), securing second rank; and a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (2013).

Sunitha V has built a distinguished career at NIT Tiruchirappalli, starting as a Research Associate from 2003 to 2006, advancing through various Assistant Professor grades from 2006 to 2022, and promoted to Associate Professor in 2022, totaling over 19 years of teaching and research experience. Her scholarly output includes 81 publications, such as "Cluster-Based Pavement Deterioration Models for Low-Volume Rural Roads" (ISRN Civil Engineering, 2012), "Application of Factor Analysis in Maintenance Management of Low Volume Roads" (International Journal of Pavement Research and Technology, 2013), "Influence of Surface Distresses on Smartphone-Based Pavement Roughness Evaluation" (International Journal of Pavement Engineering, 2020), and "Performance of Coir Geotextile Reinforced Subgrade for Low Volume Pavements" (Journal of Natural Fibers, 2020). She co-authored the book "Structural Design of Interlocking Concrete Block Pavements" (CRC Press, 2024) and contributed to "IRC SP: 129-2022 Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Roads using Coir Geotextiles" (Indian Roads Congress, 2022). Additionally, she holds a patent for "Automated Pavement Distress Detection Device and Method Thereof" (India, 2023). Dr. Sunitha V has been recognized with multiple Best Performer Awards from NIT Tiruchirappalli (2020, 2021, 2022), best paper awards at CTSEM 2020 and ICID 2018, and an Institute Day award for consultancy work (2019). She is involved in key research projects, including the State Technical Agency for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and holds memberships in professional bodies like the Indian Roads Congress and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
