About Susan

Susan Estrich is the Robert Kingsley Professor of Law and Political Science at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, where she holds an appointment in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. She earned her A.B. from Wellesley College in 1974 and her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1977. Estrich made landmark achievements at Harvard, becoming the first woman president of the Harvard Law Review and the youngest woman to receive tenure at Harvard Law School. She served as Assistant Professor of Law from 1981 to 1986 and as Professor of Law from 1986 to 1989, with research interests encompassing law and feminism and criminal law. She is also a founding board member of the Victims Rights Law Center in Boston.

Prior to joining USC around 1989, Estrich managed the 1988 presidential campaign of Governor Michael Dukakis, establishing herself as the first woman to lead a major presidential campaign. Over her more than three decades at USC, she has taught courses such as Advanced Professional Responsibility: The Business of Big Law (Law 735), focusing on ethical issues, the role of money in legal practice, advancement challenges for women and minorities, and the dynamics of Big Law. Estrich directs the Jane Bolin Project, a 2019 student-initiated effort at USC Gould School of Law dedicated to increasing diversity in the legal profession by campaigning against inequalities faced by women and minorities. Her key publications include Soulless: Ann Coulter and the Right-Wing Church of Hate (ReganBooks, 2006), The Case for Hillary Clinton (ReganBooks, 2005), and How to Get Into Law School (Riverhead Books, 2004). She contributes as a Fox News commentator on topics including law, politics, elections, and women's rights.
