Susan Sims serves as Business Support Co-ordinator at the Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies, located in the Science III Building within the Division of Sciences at the University of Otago. In this capacity, she provides critical administrative and business support to the centre's research programme activities. The Dodd-Walls Centre is a key hub for photonic and quantum technologies research at the university. Additionally, Susan Sims holds the role of Business Support Coordinator for Quantum Technologies Aotearoa, contributing to the programme management section of this national initiative hosted in part by the University of Otago.
Prior to her current positions, Susan Sims was Director of Development at the Otago Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) from June 2017 to October 2024. Appointed to replace Steve Davie, she led development efforts, including organizing major fundraising events such as annual dinners that have successfully raised substantial funds for medical research, with one noted instance of raising $100,000. She facilitated gatherings like the OMRF Summer Research Scholarships get-together held at the University of Otago Staff Club, bringing together students, researchers, donors, and foundation staff to promote summer research opportunities in medical fields. Susan Sims graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce between 2004 and 2007, focusing on English and Management. Her professional experience also includes prior roles at the University of Otago, the Otago Chamber of Commerce, and SuperGrans Dunedin, with skills in strategic planning and change management.
