Suzanne Bishaw is a Lecturer in the Curtin School of Nursing within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. With more than 20 years in nursing and 16 to 20 years in oncology nursing, she has experience across cancer centres, hospital oncology units, adult care, inpatient settings, and ambulatory care. Her career includes roles at Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) at Tawam Hospital, where she contributed to nursing education projects such as the 2015 publication on pedagogy and culture in international nursing perspectives. She holds a Master's degree and a Graduate Certificate in Health Research. Bishaw's current practice centres on education and research, encompassing acute care, supportive and palliative care, education, and care for patients undergoing active cancer treatment. At Curtin, she coordinates undergraduate nursing units in Perth and Mauritius and delivers lectures on postgraduate nursing education in Perth and Singapore.
Bishaw contributes significantly to professional nursing organizations. She is a member of the Education Standing Committee of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA) and was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) in 2024, serving as Chair of the Conference Management Portfolio. In this capacity, she organized and led international conferences in 2021, 2022, and 2023, managing both face-to-face and online events. Her research output includes first authorship on the 2024 integrative review 'Fostering nurse-patient relationships in palliative care: An integrative review with narrative synthesis,' published in Palliative Medicine with co-authors Elisabeth Coyne, Georgia K.B. Halkett, and Melissa J. Bloomer. She also co-authored the 2025 scoping review 'Cancer Nursing Frameworks to Guide Clinical Capability, Education and Careers: A Scoping Review of the International Literature' in the Journal of Advanced Nursing. Recognized as an ISNCC Global Citizen 150 member, Bishaw maintains an active academic presence with ORCID 0000-0001-8368-9971.
