Professor Tabitha Grace Mukeredzi is a professor of education at the Durban University of Technology in the Faculty of Arts and Design, School of Education. She serves as the SARChI Chair in Social Justice, Education and Society: Inclusive Education in Rural Schools. Her work centers on teacher education, with particular attention to the professional development of teachers in rural contexts, mentoring during practicum experiences, and the learning needs of pre-service and unqualified teachers. She has held positions including associate professor and senior lecturer in the Adult Education Unit at the Midlands Campus.
Professor Mukeredzi’s research specializations include teacher professional development outside formal lecture settings, school-based mentoring in cohort models of practicum, and the experiences of part-time postgraduate certificate in education students. Key publications include “Professional development through teacher roles: Conceptions of professionally unqualified teachers in rural South Africa and Zimbabwe” (2013), “Mentoring in a Cohort Model of Practicum” (2017), “The Nature of Professional Learning Needs of Rural Secondary School Teachers” (2016), and “Why prisoners pursue adult education and training” (2021). She is listed as Professor of Education on Google Scholar with research interests in teacher education and has contributed to studies on transformative learning of pre-service teachers and continuous professional development for citizenship and social cohesion. Her appointments and contributions are documented through affiliations with the Durban University of Technology and earlier work associated with the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
