About Taeho

Taeho Jung is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. He directs the Data Security and Privacy Lab (DSP-Lab), which focuses on achieving security, trust, and privacy in cyberspace through applied cryptography and blockchain technologies. His research addresses challenges from algorithmic designs to hardware realizations and spans cyberspace to physical environments, involving collaborations with academic institutions and industry partners. Jung holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology, earned in 2017, and a B.E. in Computer Software from Tsinghua University in 2011. He joined Notre Dame as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor. In recognition of his contributions, Jung received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2024 to improve cybersecurity. He was also honored with the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2025 and a Best Poster Presentation Award in 2026. Additionally, he serves on program committees for conferences such as PETS 2026, IEEE ICBC 2026, and PETS 2027. Jung has delivered a public lecture titled "When Computing Transforms the World — And the Risks That Follow" in Notre Dame's First Lecture Series.

Jung's research specializations include privacy-preserving data publishing and mining, cybersecurity in big data lifecycles considering volume, velocity, and variety, and big data mining for cybersecurity applications such as human behavior analysis. His publication record features more than 100 papers in premier venues including IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, IEEE INFOCOM, NDSS, USENIX TaPP, and IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security. Key publications encompass "AccountTrade: Accountability Against Dishonest Big Data Buyers and Sellers" (IEEE TIFS, 2018), "Speech Sanitizer: Speech Content Desensitization and Voice Anonymization" (IEEE TDSC, 2020), "PatronuS: Protect Both Privacy and Security in Cloud Surveillance System" (IEEE JSAC, 2020), "Real-time Charging Station Recommendation System for Electric-Vehicle Taxis" (2016), and "Control Cloud Data Access Privilege and Anonymity with Fully Anonymous Attribute-Based Encryption" (2014). Through these works, Jung has made substantial contributions to secure and private data systems in Engineering.
