Great teaching
Dr. Tanya Gvozdeva is a Lecturer (Teaching) in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Victoria University of Wellington, based in CO362 of the Cotton Building on the Kelburn Campus. Contactable at tanya.gvozdeva@vuw.ac.nz or by phone at 04 886 5484, she plays a vital role in undergraduate education within the Computer Science-related mathematical foundations. Gvozdeva obtained her PhD from the University of Auckland in 2012, supervised by Arkadii Slinko. Her research focuses on combinatorics and the mathematics of social choice, areas intersecting with computational and decision-making processes relevant to computer science applications.
In her scholarly contributions, Gvozdeva has co-authored several key papers advancing the theory of simple games and voting systems. These include 'Weighted and Roughly Weighted Simple Games' with A. Slinko, published in Mathematical Social Sciences in 2011; 'Hierarchical Simple Games: Representations and Weightedness' with A. Hameed and A. Slinko in 2011; 'Three Hierarchies of Simple Games Parameterized by Resource Parameters' with L. A. Hemaspaandra and A. Slinko in the International Journal of Game Theory in 2013; and 'Simplicial Complexes Obtained from Qualitative Probability Orders' with P. H. Edelman and A. Slinko in 2013. These works examine weightedness, hierarchical structures, trade-robustness, and simplicial complexes in game-theoretic contexts. At Victoria University of Wellington, she joined as a Professional Teaching Fellow around 2021 and coordinates courses such as MATH 324 Coding and Cryptography and STAT 193 Statistics in Practice, covering topics like bivariate graphs, probability, misleading statistics, and cryptographic concepts. She also contributes to departmental activities, including the organization of Teacher's Day events.
