Thiago dos Santos Moreira is Professor Titular in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas (ICB) of the Universidade de São Paulo. He earned his undergraduate degree in Dentistry from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho in 2001, followed by a master’s degree in 2003 and a doctorate in 2007, both in Physiology from the Universidade de São Paulo. His laboratory, the Laboratory of Neurobiology of Breathing, focuses on the neural mechanisms of respiratory control, examining how the central nervous system regulates breathing and blood pressure in mammals. Research in the lab employs electrophysiological and neuroanatomical techniques to study neuronal populations in the brainstem involved in chemosensory integration and homeostatic functions, with relevance to conditions such as hypertension, obesity, sleep apnea, heart failure, and hypoxia.
