Thomas P. Sollecito serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He earned a B.S. in Biology from Villanova University, graduating cum laude, and a DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine with honors. He completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in 1990 and specialized in Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. He holds the designation FDS, RCSEd from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, awarded in 2011.
Throughout his career, Sollecito has held key appointments including Associate Dean for Hospital and Extramural Affairs, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2005 to 2008, and Interim Dean from 2008 to 2009 at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He is an Attending in Oral Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a Clinical Associate at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He previously directed the Oral Medicine Residency Program and has served as President of the American Academy of Oral Medicine in 2010 and as a member of the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs. Sollecito is board certified in Oral Medicine and Special Care Dentistry. He has received the Lindback Award for Teaching and the 2014 Golden Pen Division 1 Dental Journalism Award from the International College of Dentists. His research focuses on facial pain, mucosal disease, and the treatment of medically complex dental patients, with numerous publications and chapters in these areas. He reviews for journals including Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, as well as the Journal of the American Dental Association.
