Timothy Bossie, OD, FAAO, serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Optometry and Senior Director of Owned Clinics & Outreach Affiliations at the New England College of Optometry (NECO). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Maine, a Doctor of Optometry (OD) from NECO in 2012, and completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Primary Care at the VA Boston Healthcare System. Previously, Dr. Bossie was Clinical and Residency Director at the Lynn Community Health Center in Lynn, Massachusetts. In his current roles, he practices as an attending optometrist at the NECO Center for Eye Care in Commonwealth and Roslindale, precepts second-, third-, and fourth-year optometry students during clinical rotations, and delivers lectures at NECO and various optometric meetings. As Senior Director, he oversees clinical operations and outreach affiliations, contributing to student clinical training through events such as white coat ceremonies and commencement oath recitations.
Dr. Bossie's primary clinical interests encompass diseases of the anterior and posterior eye segments, with particular emphasis on retinal imaging and ocular manifestations of systemic diseases. A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 2012, he also maintains memberships in the American Optometric Association and the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists. His excellence in clinical education has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Class of 2016 and 2018 Carroll Martus Awards, Second Year Clinical Preceptor of the Year in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and Third Year Clinical Preceptor of the Year in 2015 and 2017, all from NECO. Key publications include 'Comparison of a Novel Binocular Refraction System with Standard Digital Phoropter Refraction' (Optometry and Vision Science, 2023, co-authored with Jennifer Reilly and Fuensanta A. Vera-Diaz) and contributions to 'Reference Database for a Novel Binocular Visual Function Analyzer' (Ophthalmology Science, 2024). Through his leadership and scholarly work, Dr. Bossie advances clinical optometry education and practice at NECO.
