About Tina

Tina Potter is Professor of High Energy Physics in the Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge, a position held since 2021, following roles as Reader in High Energy Physics (2020-2021), University Lecturer (2018-2020), and Early Careers Lecturer (2015-2018). She previously served as Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sussex (2009-2015) after obtaining her MSci in 2005 and PhD in 2009 from Royal Holloway, University of London. As Experiment Group Leader for the ATLAS experiment and head of the High Energy Physics group at the Cavendish Laboratory, Potter specializes in discovering physics beyond the Standard Model. Her research centers on identifying dark matter, which comprises 85% of the universe's matter, through novel searches for new particles in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider using the ATLAS detector. She develops sensitive strategies for supersymmetry signatures, where the lightest supersymmetric particle is a prime dark matter candidate, and evaluates new physics prospects at future colliders.

Potter is a Fellow of Newnham College, Director of Studies in Natural Sciences (Physical), College Lecturer in Physics, and College Lecturer in Mathematics for Natural Sciences (Part I A). In 2021, she received the Pilkington Teaching Prize for outstanding and pioneering teaching, particularly supporting women in postgraduate physics. She delivers public lectures on dark matter and particle physics and serves on selection panels such as the Ernest Rutherford Fellowship Panel 2024/25.
