Dr. Todd M. Inouye serves as Director of the College of Business & Economics and Associate Professor of Management at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. He earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration, Executive M.B.A. (cohort 15), and certificates in International Management and Ethnic Studies from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He also holds an M.S. in Sport Management from Niagara University and a B.A. with Distinction in Psychology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Inouye joined UH Hilo in fall 2019 as Assistant Professor of Management following a tenure-track position at Niagara University. He was promoted to Associate Professor in fall 2021, received tenure in spring 2022, and was appointed permanent Director of the College of Business & Economics in November 2022. His career includes roles such as Faculty Mentor at Niagara University and Assistant Coach for the UH Hilo Men's Soccer Team since 2019.
Inouye's research specializations encompass management curriculum development, contextual boundary conditions for entrepreneurial strategy in small and medium enterprises, and scholarship of teaching and learning. Prominent publications include “How does agency workforce diversity influence Federal R&D funding of minority and women technology entrepreneurs? An analysis of the SBIR and STTR programs, 2001–2011” (Small Business Economics, 2018, 67 citations), “Counteracting globalization’s skeptics: How diasporas influence the internationalization preferences of minority entrepreneurs’ firms” (Global Strategy Journal, 2020, 31 citations), “From Farm to Cup: A Coffee Supply Chain Negotiation Role-Play” (Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, 2020), “Higher Education Industry Consolidation: Where Does it Leave Students?” (Journal of Religion and Business Ethics, 2020), and chapters in Entrepreneurship for Social Change (2021) and Handbook of Inclusive Innovation (2019). Awards include Teacher of the Year (Niagara University, 2018), Kauffman Best Paper Award, Finalist for Instructional Innovation Award (Decision Sciences Institute, 2018), and Finalist for CUIBE Award (Academy of International Business, 2018). He teaches Strategic Management, Negotiation, Entrepreneurship, International Management, Labor & Industrial Relations, and Introduction to Business, utilizing experiential simulations to improve ethical awareness and negotiation skills. Contributions feature service on the Chancellor’s Executive Council, high school advisory boards, and peer review for Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education.
