Great Professor!
Todd Morris is a Lecturer in the School of Economics at the University of Queensland. He obtained his PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2020. Prior to joining UQ, he held postdoctoral research positions at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy from 2019 to 2021 and at HEC Montréal from 2022 to 2023. As an empirical economist, Morris specializes in applied research using high-quality administrative data to conduct causal evaluations of government policies. His academic interests span public economics, labor economics, health economics, and the economics of ageing, with a unifying theme focused on retirement policies, older households, and labor market dynamics for aging populations.
Morris's research has been published in leading economics journals, including the Journal of Public Economics and the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy. Key publications include 'Shaping the habits of teen drivers' with Timothy J. Moore (American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, 2024), 'Income and saving responses to tax incentives for private retirement savings' with Marc K. Chan, Cain Polidano, and Ha Vu (Journal of Public Economics, 2022), 'The unequal burden of retirement reform: Evidence from Australia' (Economic Inquiry, 2022), and 'Re-examining female labor supply responses to the 1994 Australian pension reform' (Review of Economics of the Household, 2022). His ongoing working papers address topics such as COVID-19 lockdowns and working-from-home persistence (with Laura Ketter and Lizi Yu), the welfare implications of employment protection for older workers (with Benoit Dostie), longer careers' impact on hiring and coworker advancement (with Irene Ferrari and Jan Kabatek), and mass reproducibility in economics research. Morris is affiliated with IZA as a Research Affiliate, CEPAR, the Life Course Centre, Netspar, and the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute. He contributes editorially as an Economics Editor for AusTaxPolicy and supervises doctoral research on labor market topics. His work informs policy debates on retirement reforms, tax incentives, and aging workforces through rigorous empirical analysis.
