Tonia Overmeyer is the Academic Leader for the Otago MBA within the University of Otago Business School, where she plays a pivotal role in the programme's management team. Her responsibilities include teaching both on-campus and online postgraduate and post-experience students enrolled in the MBA. She liaises closely with academics, professional executives, and contractors to maintain a curriculum that is academically sound and aligned with business sector needs. Overmeyer manages papers on behalf of the delivery team, advises students on appropriate paper selection, and facilitates a range of professional development opportunities such as mentor programmes, case study coaching, career development initiatives, speaker events, and alumni interactions. She also stays informed about competitors' programmes and relevant markets to guide decisions on programme design and development, while contributing to the efficient operation of the school and its engagements within the University and broader community. In addition to her leadership duties, Overmeyer serves as Academic Leader for Executive Programmes, supporting the delivery of high-quality executive education.
Overmeyer brings extensive experience from top universities in South Africa, where she demonstrated proven expertise in creating and implementing strategic plans, policies, and programmes to achieve institutional objectives. She enjoys problem-solving and strategy formulation, skills she applies in her current position within a vibrant educational environment alongside a talented team dedicated to enhancing student learning and leadership development. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at the University of Otago, where she consolidates her practical experience with academic insights. Her research intention centers on developing a multi-stakeholder intervention rooted in systems thinking to improve employability outcomes for early career professionals. Overmeyer has further contributed to student success by coaching the Otago MBA team in the New Zealand MBA Case Competition, guiding them to championship victories. As a DBA student herself, she has firsthand experience with the supportive staff and world-class expertise that characterize the Otago MBA programme.
