Dr. Tristan Reed serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Management and Organisations within the UWA Business School, affiliated with the Centre for Business Data Analytics. He delivers instruction in business intelligence topics such as databases, data visualisation, and programming, alongside the course Programming for Business. Previously, he held the position of Research Associate at Curtin University from 31 October 2019 to 4 January 2024. Reed earned his PhD in Spatial Sciences from Curtin University, with his dissertation entitled "Improving Search and Discovery of Geospatial Data in Australia and New Zealand using Semantic Web Techniques," awarded on 7 June 2024. He also obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours, First Class) in Software Engineering from Curtin University, awarded on 17 January 2014. Trained and experienced as a software engineer, Reed possesses proficiency in various modern software technologies, development techniques, application development, and data analysis, which inform both his teaching and research endeavors.
Reed's research interests primarily focus on transport system analysis and modelling, as well as the novel use of software applications and systems to solve real-world problems. Through his collaboration with the Planning and Transport Research Centre (PATREC), he has contributed to journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, and technical reports. Key publications include "Adapting ADAPT: a service based accessibility toolkit" (Australasian Transport Research Forum Conference Proceedings 2023, with Doina Olaru, Yuchao Sun, and Sharon Biermann), "Sustainable urban mobility transitions through working from home (WFH)" (Travel Behaviour and Society, 2025, with Carey Curtis, Doina Olaru, Brett Smith, Chris Knight, and Sharon Biermann), "Motivations behind private e-rideable use in Perth, WA" (Australasian Transport Research Forum 2025 Proceedings, 2025), and the RailSmart dataset (The University of Western Australia, 2019). Additional projects encompass the Boorloo Bridge Evaluation Project, AI Adoption in the WA Volunteering Sector, and a public presentation on deepfakes. The RailSmart project received a commendation for originality from the 2019 Royal Town Planning Institute Research Awards.
