Dr. Truzaar Dordi is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Sustainability Management in the Department of Environment and Geography, Faculty of Sciences, at the University of York, a position he has held since 2023. He earned his PhD in Sustainability Management from the University of Waterloo in 2022, where his dissertation examined the role of capital markets in low-carbon transitions, following an MES in Sustainability Management in 2016 and a BA Honours in Geography and Environmental Management in 2014 from the same university. Prior to York, Dordi was an Aspiration 2030 Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Victoria from 2022 to 2023. His academic trajectory reflects a consistent focus on sustainability, complemented by leadership roles such as Vice President of the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics and membership on the University of Waterloo’s Responsible Investing Advisory Group.
Dordi’s research specializes in climate finance, energy policy, and sustainability transitions, investigating low-carbon economic shifts through lenses of fossil fuel divestment, equity ownership, stranded assets, and climate policy. His publications appear in high-impact journals like Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions, Energy Research and Social Science, Climatic Change, and Sustainability. Notable works include 'A voice for change? Capital markets as a key leverage point in Canada’s fossil fuel industry' (2023, with Weber, Rhodes, and McPherson), 'Ten financial actors can accelerate a transition away from fossil fuels' (2022, with Gehricke, Naef, and Weber), 'Framing divestment: A decade of media discourse on fossil fuel divestment in higher education' (2025, with Krueger, Duff, and Brodsky), and 'The impact of divestment announcements on the share price of fossil fuel stocks' (2019, with Weber). His scholarship, cited over 600 times per Google Scholar, has garnered media attention in New Scientist, Maclean’s, USA Today, Euronews, and Carbon Brief. Awards include Corporate Knights '30 Under 30 Sustainability Leader' (2020), Canadian Clean50 Emerging Sustainability Leader (2022), and White Rose Crucible fellowship (2025). At York, he leads the MSc in Sustainable Business, Environment, and Society, teaches modules on sustainable business and change management, and serves as Director of Partnerships and Engagement. He is principal investigator on the ESRC-funded 'Capitalizing on Change: A Recipe for Sustainable Food Systems' project (2025-2028).
