Tyler Caviness serves as Senior Lecturer and Director of the Professional Golf Management Program in the College of Business at Eastern Kentucky University, where he has been a faculty member since 2009. His academic background includes an M.B.A. from Eastern Kentucky University, a B.S. from Methodist University, and All But Dissertation (A.B.D.) from the University of Kentucky. As a PGA Professional with the Kentucky Section of the PGA of America, Caviness teaches PGA education courses such as Rules of Golf, Tournament Operations, Golf Car Fleet Management, Golf Operations, Customer Relations, and Merchandise & Inventory Management. He has instructed approximately 500 students and promotes the PGA of America brand daily, including through classroom discussions on the benefits of PGA membership and the opportunities it offers to its members.
Caviness's academic interests include marketing in the golf industry, retail in the golf industry, and performance funding in higher education. He is affiliated with the National Golf Foundation and the Association of Golf Merchandisers. In 2019, he received the Kentucky PGA Professional Development Award, known as the Horton Smith Award.
