Dr. Upasana Khurana is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kasturi Ram College of Higher Education (KRCHE) in Narela, Delhi, affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. She holds a Ph.D. from RTM Nagpur University (2018), M.Phil., and M.Sc. in Mass Communication and Journalism (MCAJ). With 16 years of teaching experience, including 13 years at KRCHE since its inception in 2005, she leads the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication (BAJMC) program, a three-year course offered in morning (60 seats) and evening (30 seats) shifts. The program emphasizes practical training in print journalism, radio, video production, advertising, public relations, new media, internships, and projects to develop professional skills for careers in media, communication, government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations. Dr. Khurana has undertaken key administrative roles, serving as Convener of the Grievance Redressal Cell, Anti-Ragging and Discipline Committee, and organizer of events including a webinar on Intellectual Property Rights and a two-day national conference on "Education 5.0: Digital Interventions for Future Sustainability" sponsored by GGSIPU. She is also an editor for the college's Insight magazine and a member of the Governing Body.
Dr. Khurana's research focuses on contemporary media dynamics, including political campaigns in the age of social media, censorship and self-regulation in Indian web series and OTT content, and Instagram Reels' influence on youth identity formation in urban India. Notable publications include "Political Campaigns in the Age of Social Media" (2019), "Challenges for Women Journalists in Electronic Media" (2020), "The Role of Technology in Transforming Education" (2024), "Censorship and Self-Regulation in Indian Web Series and OTT Content" (2025), and "Instagram Reels and Youth Identity Formation in Urban India" (2025). Her contributions to academia are recognized with two Best Teacher Awards and the Exemplary Academician of the Year 2021.
