Dr. Usha Sundralingam is a Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at Monash University Malaysia, part of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She earned her BSc (Hons) in Pure Chemistry from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2007, an MSc in Drug Delivery from the School of Pharmacy at University College London in 2009, and a PhD in Pharmaceutics from Monash University Malaysia in 2017. Her doctoral research focused on developing a transdermal drug delivery system using transfersomes incorporating ratite oils for breast cancer treatment. Following her MSc, she worked as a paediatric formulation research assistant at University College London for 1.5 years. After returning to Malaysia in 2011, she commenced her PhD studies. In November 2016, she joined the Faculty of Medicine at SEGi University Malaysia as a Chemistry lecturer for the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences programme, where she supervised four undergraduate research projects in collaboration with Monash University Malaysia. She has been a Lecturer at Monash University Malaysia's School of Pharmacy since January 2020 and is currently accepting PhD students.
Dr. Sundralingam's research specializes in pharmaceutics, particularly transdermal drug delivery systems, nanocarriers such as transfersomes, ethosomes, liposomes, and nanoparticles, and topical formulations including gels, creams, and films. Her academic interests encompass permeation studies of bioactives using human and animal skin models, natural products like geraniin, natural oils, and applications in breast and skin cancer therapy. She is affiliated with the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, contributing to goals in good health and well-being through eco-friendly nanocarriers derived from fruit wastes and sustainable skin permeation methods. Notable publications include 'Enhancing the Bioavailability of the Ellagitannin, Geraniin: Formulation, Characterization, and in vivo Evaluation' (International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2024), 'Exploring the Role of Herbal Compounds in Skin Aging: A Systematic Review of Topical Approaches' (Phytotherapy Research, 2025), 'The green plate effect: Systematic review and meta-analyses of vegan diets and metabolic health in adults - findings from randomized controlled trials' (Trends in Food Science & Technology, 2025), 'Effects of Traditional Asian Diet on dietary fibre requirement, gut microbiome composition, and faecal and urine metabolomes in healthy Asian women: a pilot study' (Beneficial Microbes, 2026), and 'Stability Assessment of an Extemporaneous Baclofen Oral Suspension Using Commercial Tablets and X-Temp Oral Suspension' (Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2024). She received the PVC Commendation Award for teaching in 2024, shared with a colleague.
