Vassiliki Bamiatzi is Professor of Strategy and International Business in the University of Sussex Business School and Head of the Strategy and Marketing department. She earned her BSc in Business Administration and MBA from the Athens University of Economics and Business. In 2009, she obtained her PhD from the Manchester Business School, where she also served as a post-doctoral fellow in International Business. She joined the University of Sussex in October 2019. Previously, she held positions as Associate Professor in Strategy and International Business at the University of Liverpool Management School and as Associate Professor in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Leeds University Business School. Prior to academia, she worked six years as a Business Analyst and Small Business and Regional Development Consultant.
Her research spans Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and International Business, focusing particularly on the impact of the external environment on strategy, investment decisions, and firm performance. Publications appear in journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of World Business, Risk Analysis, British Journal of Management, and Journal of Business Ethics. Key works include "A focus on small and medium-sized high-growth firms: the role of high-growth sector employment" (International Small Business Journal, 2014), "Risk in international business and its mitigation" (Journal of World Business, 2020), and "Towards a Synergistic Multi-stakeholder Approach to CSR in Crisis: Learning from Large Global Firms’ Responses to COVID-19" (British Journal of Management, 2024). She chaired the British Academy of Management 2023 Conference at the University of Sussex and serves as Track Chair for the International Business and International Management Special Interest Group at BAM conferences. Since 2012, she has been a Research Associate at Georgia State University and a visiting member of its Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER-GSU). She is a Small Business Charter Nominated Assessor for the UK Association of Business Schools. Her scholarly work has garnered over 1,700 citations.
