About Viana

Dr Viana Vuvan is a titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Lecturer in Physiotherapy in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences at The University of Queensland. She holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours), a Master of Physiotherapy Studies (coursework), and a Doctor of Philosophy, all obtained from The University of Queensland. Vuvan brings a strong clinical background in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, with expertise in managing a wide range of musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries, particularly upper limb disorders. She contributes to teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy programs, delivering courses such as Clinical skills in musculoskeletal, sports and exercise physiotherapy, Physiotherapy Specialities: Musculoskeletal IIA (Upper Limb), Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy - Upper Limb, and Clinical Reasoning and the Biomedical Model in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. As an active researcher, she is a member of the Sports Injury Rehabilitation and Prevention for Health (SIRPH) research unit, the Neck and Head Research Unit (NAHRU), and an affiliate of the Centre for Innovation in Pain and Health Research (CIPHeR).

Vuvan's research focuses on improving the management of persistent musculoskeletal pain conditions, such as tendinopathies, and elucidating the mechanisms underlying their chronicity. Her PhD investigated factors contributing to pain, disability, and chronicity in lateral elbow tendinopathy, with additional explorations into Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, plantar fasciopathy, and whiplash-associated disorders. Notable publications include 'Development of a core outcome set for lateral elbow tendinopathy (COS-LET) using best available evidence and an international consensus process' (2022), 'ICON 2020—International Scientific Tendinopathy Symposium Consensus: A scoping review of psychological and psychosocial constructs and outcome measures reported in tendinopathy clinical trials' (2022), 'A combined program of education plus exercise versus general advice for ankle osteoarthritis: a feasibility randomised controlled trial' (2024), 'Implementing Good Life with osteoArthritis from Denmark (GLA:D®) in Australian public hospitals. Part 1: feasibility' (2024), 'Implementing Good Life with osteoArthritis from Denmark (GLA:D®) in Australian public hospitals. Part 2: service providers’ perceptions' (2024), 'A Qualitative Study Exploring Physiotherapists’ and Patients’ Experiences and Perspectives in the Management of Lateral Elbow Tendinopathy' (2025), and 'The reported characteristics of child and adolescent participants in research on non-traumatic anterior knee pain: a scoping review' (2026). Vuvan has presented her research at numerous state-wide, national, and international conferences, earning awards for several presentations.
