Rate My Professor Vicky Winton

Throughout her career, Dr. Winton has held diverse positions that highlight her expertise. Following her doctorate, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford from 2002 to 2004. In 2005, she joined the University of Western Australia as a Consultant and Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Archaeology. She then served as Lecturer in Palaeolithic Archaeology at the University of Liverpool from 2005 to 2007. From 2008 to 2013, she worked as project manager and lithic artefact specialist for Eureka Archaeological Research and Consulting at UWA. Between 2013 and 2015, she directed research for the Indigenous Heritage Program-funded Weld Range Web of Knowledge project. Dr. Winton has supervised numerous Honours projects and a Master's thesis in UWA archaeology and coordinated the unit ARCY4101 - Archaeological Theory in 2016. She has received several prestigious awards, including British Academy Small Research Grants in 2003 (£4,300 for Dickett’s Field Palaeolithic Project), 2004 (£8,778 for Mékrou Valley, Niger), 2006 (£500 conference grant), and 2007 (£7,480 for NAMPAL Project in Namibia).

Key publications include "Field characterisation of rock art paintings using non-invasive reflectance spectroscopy in the search for organic paint binders at Genealogy and Stickman Rockshelters in the Weld Range (Western Australia)" (2020, Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports); "What do we actually publish? / New style guide" (2018, Australian Archaeology); and contributions to editorial roles in the journal Australian Archaeology. Her work has significantly contributed to understanding Aboriginal heritage in Western Australia's Mid West region through collaborative projects with traditional owners.
