Victoria Ioana Paun is a researcher in the Microbiology Department at the Institute of Biology Bucharest of the Romanian Academy. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Bucharest between 2012 and 2015, followed by a Master’s degree from the same university from 2015 to 2017. She completed her Doctorate at the School of Advanced Studies of the Romanian Academy (SCOSAAR) between November 2017 and January 2023.
Her research focuses on microbiology, genetics, and the study of ice microbiomes, including cave ice environments and psychrophilic bacteria. She has contributed to publications on topics such as cold-active lipases from ice cave bacteria and the functional profiling of ancient microbial strains. Paun holds a position as Junior Researcher at the Institute of Biology Bucharest and maintains collaborations with researchers affiliated with the University of Bucharest’s Research Institute (ICUB) and Faculty of Chemistry.
