About Vindhya

Dr Vindhya Weeratunga is a Lecturer in the School of Business at UNSW Canberra, University of New South Wales. Her academic background includes a PhD in Management from the University of New South Wales, Canberra, Australia, a Master of Business Administration (Merit) from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, and a BSc in Business Administration, majoring in International Business Management (Magna Cum Laude), from Goldey-Beacom College, Delaware, US. Having transitioned from roles as an HR practitioner and CEO, she now holds appointments in teaching and research at UNSW Canberra. She teaches ZBUS1101 Organisational Behaviour, ZBUS8314 People and Systems, and ZBUS8315 Driving Performance, and facilitates workshops on Adaptive Leadership while delivering short courses and microcredentials in High Performance through Systems Thinking.

Weeratunga's research specializations encompass human resource management, systems thinking applications to complex problems, adaptive leadership, employee engagement, worker well-being, flexible and hybrid work, the future of work, and the impacts of HR practices across demographic groups. As a mixed-methods researcher affiliated with the Public Service Research Group, she served as co-investigator on the ANZSOG/ACT Public Service project examining flexible working in the Australian Capital Territory Public Service and contributes to projects on hybrid working productivity. Her key publications include journal articles such as 'Working-from-home experiences and well-being of older workers in the public sector: An agency theory perspective' (2026, International Journal of Public Sector Management, with Buick et al.), 'The unintended consequences of the blended workforce in the Australian Public Service: Effects on middle manager well-being' (2025, Australian Journal of Public Administration, with Buick, Blackman, and O'Donnell), 'Leveraging system flows for complex change' (2025, Australian Journal of Public Administration, with Blackman et al.), 'Well-Being in the Public Service: A Multi-Level Analysis of Job Demands and Job Resources' (2025, International Journal of Public Administration, with Buick et al.), and 'Working from home during COVID-19: What does this mean for the ideal worker norm?' (2023, Gender, Work and Organization, with Williamson and Taylor), for which the team received the 2024 IRSPM Rosemary O'Leary Prize. With 14 journal articles, four reports, and numerous conference presentations, her work advances public sector management and employee outcomes.
