Vishal Agrawal is the Henry J. Blommer Family Endowed Chair in Sustainable Business and Professor of Operations Management at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Following his doctoral studies, Agrawal joined the McDonough School of Business faculty, advancing through the ranks to full professor. He has held titles including Provost's Distinguished Associate Professor and Lapeyre Family Associate Professor. In leadership roles, he serves as Director of the Business of Sustainability Initiative, Director of the MBA Certificate on Sustainable Business, Director of the Undergraduate Sustainable Business Fellows Program, and Co-Academic Director of the M.S. in Environment and Sustainability Management degree program.
Agrawal's research focuses on sustainable operations and supply chains, circular economy, business model innovation, renewable energy, product development, supply chain sustainability, consumer behavior, and the role of businesses in addressing sustainability challenges. His scholarship has appeared in leading journals such as Management Science and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. Key publications include 'New Opportunities for Operations Management Research in Sustainability' (2019), 'Modular Upgradability in Consumer Electronics: Economic and Environmental Implications' (2016, Journal of Industrial Ecology), and 'The Effect of Sourcing Policies on Suppliers' Sustainable Practices' (2019, Production and Operations Management). His work has earned prestigious awards, including the Management Science Best Paper in Operations Management Award (2015), Paul Kleindorfer Award in Sustainability (2016), INFORMS TIMES Best Paper Award (2022), and MSOM Young Scholar Prize (2023). Agrawal teaches courses on sustainable business at undergraduate, MBA, executive, and custom levels, receiving the MBA Excellence in Teaching Award (2020) and Poets&Quants 40 Under 40 MBA Professors recognition (2020). He serves as Associate Editor for Management Science and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, and previously as Department Editor for Production and Operations Management (2020-2023). He consults and collaborates with companies and startups on sustainable business issues.
