Dr. Vittal Babu Gudimetla is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, where he has served in a regular capacity since 2013, following a contract position from 2012 to 2013. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, USA, in 2002, under the supervision of Prof. John D. Protasiewicz. Prior to that, he completed his M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2000, with project work advised by Prof. G. Ranga Rao, and his B.Sc. in Chemistry from R.K.M. Vivekananda College, University of Madras. From 2009 to 2011, he held the Welch Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship at Rice University, Houston, Texas, USA, working with Prof. Paul S. Engel.
Dr. Gudimetla's research specializations include the synthesis and applications of structurally diverse imidazolium salts and N-heterocyclic carbenes for catalysis and technological applications, organometallics and catalysis, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical methods in chemistry. As principal investigator, he secured the UGC BSR Startup Grant (Rs. 6 Lakhs, 2015-2017) and DST-SERB-EEQ Grant (Rs. 44.20 Lakhs, 2017-2021). He has given invited talks on carbon-heteroatom bond formation, synthetic chemistry in nanomaterials, and metal-mediated catalysis at Ewing Christian College, NIT-Pondicherry, and others. He is a member of CUTN's Academic Council (2023), Board of Studies in Chemistry and Mathematics (2022), and several doctoral committees.
