Dr. Wael Chiri serves as an Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Curtin Medical School within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University, where he lectures medical students. He earned his MBBS from the University of Western Australia in 2009. He completed orthopaedic surgical training in Perth from 2016 to 2020, obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery (FRACS Orth) and Fellowship of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA). He advanced his expertise with a one-year Hand and Upper Limb Postgraduate Fellowship under Professor Gregory Bain in Adelaide, South Australia. Currently, Dr. Chiri works as a Hand Specialist at the Fremantle Hand Unit in Fremantle Hospital. He maintains a private practice as a Specialist Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist, and Hand Surgeon at Perth Orthopaedic Specialist Centre, operating at St John of God Mt Lawley and Murdoch Hospitals.
Dr. Chiri's clinical practice covers comprehensive upper limb surgery, treating elective and traumatic conditions in adults and children. His procedures include primary and revision shoulder replacements, rotator cuff repairs, arthroscopic shoulder surgery, Latarjet stabilisation, elbow replacements and revisions, endoscopic cubital tunnel surgery, elbow arthroscopy and instability reconstruction, endoscopic distal biceps tendon repair, partial and total wrist fusions, wrist replacements, wrist arthroscopy and ganglion excision, endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery, Dupuytren's disease management, hand arthritis treatment, trigger digit release, and base of thumb (CMC joint) arthritis surgery. In research, he has authored several publications in international peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals and presented at national conferences. Key works include 'Arthroscopic Resection of Lunotriquetral Coalition' (Arthroscopy Techniques, 2022), 'Anatomical and Clinical Concepts in Distal Radius Volar Ulnar Corner and Ulnocarpal Impingement' (2022), 'Detection, classification, and characterization of proximal humerus fractures on plain radiographs using deep learning' (The Bone & Joint Journal, 2024), and 'Tension Band Wiring in Upper Extremity Surgery' (Journal of Wrist Surgery, 2022). He remains committed to ongoing research for improved patient outcomes.
