About Wei

Dr Wei He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences at King’s College London. He received his BSc and MSc degrees from Xi’an Jiaotong University in China in 2009 and 2012, respectively, and his PhD degree from Queen Mary University of London in 2016. Between 2017 and 2019, he was a joint Postdoctoral Researcher in the MIT Global Engineering and Research Lab and the MIT PV Lab, focusing on solar energy systems and desalination technologies. Prior to joining King’s College London in 2022, Dr He served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick. He holds the Royal Academy of Engineering Engineering for Development Research Fellowship.

Dr He’s research focuses on grid-scale energy storage, domestic energy decarbonization, and engineering for development in energy, water, and food. His work addresses thermal, mechanical, and electrochemical processes through multi-scale and multi-physics designs to enhance energy systems and separation processes. He investigates technical, social, economic, and environmental constraints for sustainable energy and environmental solutions in real-world applications, contributing to areas such as long-duration energy storage, low-carbon heating and cooling, and space solar energy technologies.
