Rate My Professor Wesley Lim

Dr Wesley Lim is a Lecturer in German Studies in the School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics at the Australian National University. He holds a PhD and MA in German Literature and Culture from Vanderbilt University and a BBA with a minor in Dance and Movement Studies from Emory University. His research focuses on depictions of dance and the moving body in Germanic literature and film, as well as screendance and figure skating studies, particularly in East German contexts. Lim’s award-winning monograph, Dancing with the Modernist City: Metropolitan Dance Texts around 1900, was published by the University of Michigan Press in 2024 and received the 2025 DAAD/GSA Prize for the Best Book in Literature and Cultural Studies. His articles have appeared in journals including German Studies Review, Dance Chronicle, Dance Research Journal, Studies in European Cinema, and TDR: The Drama Review.

Lim has received several grants and fellowships, including a National Library of Australia Fellowship in 2023, ANU RSHA External Visitor Funding, a Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies Research Fellowship, and a DAAD Faculty Summer Seminar. He is currently developing a second book project on performing politics, identity, and gender in East German figure skating. Lim contributes to the field through supervision of research students and participation in academic events such as book launches and public lectures on topics including dance photography and nationhood.
